St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London by busylady

St Pancras Renaissance Hotel, London

This magnificent building was opened in 1873 as the Midland Grand Hotel. It now forms the frontispiece of St. Pancras Station which was originally opened in 1868. The station was destined for demolition but was saved by John Betjeman the poet, who successfully campaigned to preserve the building. He is now honoured with a statue inside the newly transformed station. The present modern hotel is a new building behind this facade which is used as offices.

Super shot. I love this building and am so glad it's been preserved. It's an area we know well because of the Eurostar arrivals at the station. We have actually stayed at an Air B and B apartment within the building, once. Much cheaper than the rooms in the hotel, and yet a great way to experience the building.

@jamibann How interesting. We have some friends who booked a stay in the hotel as a special treat but we're disappointed to find that the hotel rooms were in a modern building at the back!
