Le Puy-de-Dome

We took the train up to this fabulous viewpoint, although it is possible to walk it, through the mountain paths. There are views all around this huge dome, which is actually one of the largest of the historic volcanos in the area. At the top, are the remains of the 2nd century Mercury Temple which you can see in the picture
The telecommunications mast on the top is visible from afar, but not much information was available about it. However, it was a very fascinating visit.

@busylady The climb is sometimes used in the Tour de France, but it's the road section, not the very top.

@bob65 You're right, but this year they plan to use the summit for the race, but not allow the public to view that part due to safety concerns. They will show the summit section on big screens. I thought for a moment you planning on riding some sections!
