Okay, for me it is a rare sight. I have been treated to the residual flashes from lightning over the thirty some odd years that I have lived in Washington State, but never to my memory, have I seen the actual lightning strike (if I have, it must not have been that memorable).
Normally, storms of this type literally blow thru and are done.
This one followed me up I-5 from Lacey and headed westward to the Olympic Mountains and stayed there for most of the evening. I couldn't resist. I had to see what could be gotten. The one shot with a good strike, was the one where the camera was bumped. But I'll take it.
The photo given the perspective of the entire shot and distance , the insert for more detail of the strike.
aside: I lived in Arizona and you can get closer to the storms there for much more spectacular shots.

Great capture and you were lucky to get it. I once had the misfortune to see a strike less that 100 yds away from me. It hit an electric pole and blow all the power for miles, and it was loud and frightening.
