Atalaya by calm

Atalaya

The winter home of philanthropist, poet and industrialist, Archer Huntington and his wife, sculptor Anna Hyatt Huntington, built in South Carolina along the Atlantic Ocean 1931-1933. The Moorish-Mediterranean Revival style house is 200 feet by 200 feet with 30 rooms around the perimeter and a courtyard in the center. The Huntiningtons lived there with 7 live-in staff and a menagerie of animals, rarely entertaining. The Huntingtons vacated Atalya from 1942 to 1946 so that it could be used by the Army Air Corps during World War II. I think the house looks more like a prison than a summer home. All that remains is the shell of the house, open to the public.
Home with iron bars on the windows? Spare me. Great shot though

@jgpittenger Wikipedia says that Mrs. Huntington designed the grills for all the windows and they were to protect against hurricane winds along with the heavy wooden shutters on the inside... of course, it might have deterred the bears Mrs. Huntington kept in pens from entering the house if they escaped! Haha! She only kept them there while she was sculpting bears.
