Elephant Hawk Moth Caterpillar

An unusual one for me, I found this huge caterpillar on my front doormat this morning, I knew what it was but I have never seen one in the garden before, he is not pretty and eventually he will become one of the biggest moths in the country with a wing span of 6-7cms!
Still repulsive on black!
