This is the bell heather that is flowering across the North York Moors at the moment. It is not the true heather which flowers later in August. I have never seen it as glorious as this, the weather conditions must have had something to do with it. It is much brighter in colour and flowers in a clump at the top of the flower head, the natural heather is much less colourful and flowers are smaller and grow up the length of the flower stalk. This year we are lucky and looks like we will have over two months of colour! At the moment the moor is tinder dry with fire notices everywhere, I’ve never seen as scorched and dry landscape for many years. This has got to be the first year in many a year that we are actually having a summer, it’s been a wash out for the last 5years that I can remember and we have not had scorched grass like this for at least 10 years!!
Nice on black
