its been very hot today, around 38C and this fellow was panting like a dog. We have put out a big bucket of water for him/her to drink from maybe when its cooler later tonight
unusual for a koala to pant, they lose too much moisture - if he is still there today and panting you may consider calling your local koala rescue and discussing. putting water out is good - a tip is to put the water in something low, and always place at least one sturdy stick in the water so that any small wildlife that fall in can get out again. A koala, even dehydrated, will only drink a small amount - even as little as 30-50ml can completely revive one. the dry is really getting to them, really tough of all wildlife! thank you so much for caring about his welfare!
this is a great capture :)
@koalagardens its been a bit cooler today and havnt seen our furry friend. Thanks for the tip about putting a stick in the water. I would feel dreadful if some little creature drowned.
It must be fun to have him visit and take a spot in your tree from time to time. I hope he's ok. We've seen reports of the heat being so bad in some places that animals are dying. All the while we are experiencing the opposite- too bad we can't trade a little! Good shot.
