In North and South Dakota there were prairie dog towns all over the prairie. This is what the coyote I posted yesterday was hunting. They spend much of their time standing up and watching for danger. Hawks, coyotes and rattle snakes are some of their biggest threats. They sound an alarm whistle when they see danger and they all head for their buroughs.
When I was a kid back in the early 50s, there was a Walt Disney movie called "The Vanishing Prairie" that spent quite a bit of time following the lives of Prairie Dogs. It was the first time I had ever them and I was fascinated by them.
