May 22: Garden Bird

My father tried to keep ALL birds out of the garden. I welcome birds into my yard by providing bird feeders and a bird bath. However, I protect my ripening vegetables and fruits from the birds. When the harvest is nearing its end, I sometimes share the bounty with the birds. Today's shot shows a bird who frequents my yard on a daily basis. I believe he is a common grackle (a black bird with shimmery feathers around his neck).
What a beady eye you have captured!

Well done. Sometimes they are hard to capture. Birds are welcome with me, too.

Birds are always welcome in my yard but my neighbors complained about my feeders so I took them down. They were worried the food would attract tree rats, I would have probably just taken photos of them too! Nice B&W Daisy

Great capture Daisy. Don't think I have ever seen or heard of one before. We have several feeders but we have yet to find one that the squirrels and Magpies don't monopolise!

Great capture of this nice looking bird. I love birds in my garden as they eat a lot of harmful insects. (special in spring).
Thank you for you nice comment and the fav. Much appreciated

@lleo Yes, their eyes are definitely beady and seem to be watching every move people and birds make around them.

@deu49097 Thanks! At first, I did not like the grackles due to their aggressive nature, but they have calmed down a lot and I have grown more tolerant.

@olivetreeann Thanks. I like to see how their feathers shimmer in the sunlight.

@rebecka Thanks. The neighbors complained about my bird feeders where I used to live. The neighbors here seem to like birds and/or don't complain.

@paulaw Thanks! We don't have many magpies here. I looked up common grackles. They live mostly in the mid and eastern part of the United States.

@nanm The other birds think the grackles are mean. They avoid getting too close to the grackles for the most part.

@linc Thanks.

@tonygig Thanks.

@pyrrhula Thanks. The birds here seem to eat a combination of worms, insects, and seeds (depending on the type of bird). The birds are welcome to eat the insects in my yard.
