My mother has a nativity set that she has put up for over sixty years. It is showing its wear, but it holds precious memories. Every year she and my father were married, she added a piece to the nativity set. She stopped adding pieces on the year of their 50th wedding anniversary. Now, I can only put out a sampling of the nativity set, because she lives in a skilled nursing care facility and there is not enough room for all of the nativity set.
Wow, 50 years means 50 or more pieces? Would be fabulous to have it all out at once, must be beautiful and quite the nativity scene! All the more precious in their less than perfect state.
Lovely story and a lovely Christmas crib set. Bring back the memories of my Christmas `s at home. My dear Mother did display one every year with the Christmas tree . Often some of the statues get broken and we buy her a new one for a Christmas present Fav.
@maggiemae My mother mostly stays in her room, so she would miss the nativity set if it wasn't in her room. However, there are beautiful Christmas decorations, including nativity sets, throughout the public areas of her home. They even have a door decorating contest!
@beryl Thank you. My mother's room is the first one in her hall. A lot of the residents come by to see the decorations in her room. The residents always enjoy it when I bring in new decorations. Sometimes, I take the decorations to the dining room to show the other residents I know.
@olivetreeann Thank you. Yes, there are sweet memories with this set. This year, I set up the set so it tells the Bible story of the shepherds and the wise men.
