The Lone Survivor by darylo

The Lone Survivor

I'm not sure what this insect is. My first thought was a young praying mantis? Notice one leg is missing, though. It was a spooky night last night, but I'm glad it survived. It was quite jumpy when I approached it with my macro clip.

Very pleased to have the indoor lights creating a bit of orangey bokeh for the shot too. It's a miserable rainy morning. I need a head shot of myself, and was hoping it would be taken outdoors--looks like an indoor shot will have to do!

Happy All Saint's Day. Will try to create another shot today or repost one of my grandmother if I get another break. Off to do some grading!
he is kind of sad looking...

Aww, I wonder how it lost it's leg? Poor chap :(

Whatever it is , it looks like a long journey to me - and not very speedy. Good to get some orange, and yes, it's raining all day here too and we all got wet on this morning's dog/local shopping walk!

Oh, sad to be missing a leg but I hope it still gets around ok.

You need a head shot? Me, too! We could practice on each other! I hate hate hate having them done, and I always make a stiff, awkward face. Therefore, I tend to clip images of myself within larger compositions that turned out ok, and my professional profiles show someone's shoulder behind me (the plights of always being the shortest one in any group shot)!

@jyokota My friend helped me and took a great one. I'm thinking of changing my profile shot, but I do love my school marmish look here. LOL. I'm running for a local school governance council and they wanted a head shot for the "posters." Imagine the HORROR! I take awful shots, but I did like the one from today.

Poor thing, wonder what it is.

Never seen this insect, but it's not a praying mantis.

@darylo -- thanks for link -- I commented on that site -- fabulous photo! But I think we've all come to recognize you through this one with glasses and I like it a lot for your avatar image. Very fun looking over looking your glasses. But if you change, at least you have a great one to choose! I'm using a Ghibli Studio image I uploaded when I first started on 365 and I realize I should change to a real photo of me but now, 10 months in, I think people think I look like the sun drawn by Hayao Miyazaki!

@sunshinephoto5 @darrenboyj @quietpurplehaze @writingdays @anazad511 Thanks for coming to see my little bug. From the side, he reminded me of a mantis figure, but not developed. Who knows what he is. May try to do some research later. But time, never on my side.

@jyokota I do think I'll keep my current image as it's my fun one, and I love the stare! I love the Studio Ghibli image, and we are, of course, HUGE Miayzaki fans (my favorite is "Kiki's Delivery Service"). Our visiting Japanese student arrives Thursday, and I'm going to be busy this weekend making my house look like it never does--neat! She's had 2.5 years of English instruction, so I hope my daughter's 2.5 years of Japanese works well all around. :)

@darylo -- I''ll bet your family and your visiting student will have such fun together! I hope you've listened to Kiki's Delivery Service in Japanese -- the voices are SO typically Japanese in their unrealistically high-pitched tones. Michael Van Krey and I are almost ready to announce a photographers' trip to Japan for next summer -- hope you can join us!

@jyokota Oh, now you have me dreaming. As in Summer 2014? Kira is going to Japan in June of 2014, so all or money went to that one trip. It's sooooo expensive. I can't even go with her when most of the parents are going. But I can dream! Let me know details all the same. :)

My email is junko.yokota@mac.com - would you send me an email off-site? Thanks . . . I have some questions to ask you about that trip.
