@rellimdj pushed me this week to do "light painting," and this is my second try!
Yesterday, the day flew by and I searched for a new torch in the grocery store (no luck there) while I picked up some new "temptation" subjects with stems. :) My "Aim and Flame" this morning decided to be out of juice, but I had two long fireplace matches in my possession. I DID try to use my torch light app on my Samsung S3 for multiple shots, but it was cold and lifeless, so back to fire I went. Two matches; two attempts. I kept hitting the shutter release over and over to get as many takes as I could while each match was lit. This one was the best one I think.
Many thanks to everyone yesterday who gave me advice on how to improve my approach to this assignment! Really much appreciated!!!
@rvwalker I think that is one of the nicest compliments I have ever received--thanks Ross. Have away! Total darkness is a key factor in my opinion. Would love to see what you come up with! :)
@cameraholic Thanks so much Lena -- it's a fun challenge when there's time, which I didn't have the last time I was assigned the push! Thanks for the fav very much!
Wowza! What I really appreciate is how the light painting is not just random "coolness factor", it is specific in adding to the creative thought/theme of the photo. Can't imagine how you can top this one, if you do, wow. I would think this one should make the finals.
@rellimdj Thanks so much Joe for that feedback! That's why the cool light of the cell phone was just not working for me. Might work with another subject, though...who knows. I may try one more before week's end if I can--but different light source hopefully.
Such a great shot and a welcome change from the usual sparkler and torch idea, so beautifully executed the tones and colours are spot on!! And when you look at it large it really does look like a dragon! Cake out of window time for you i think @darylo ;)
@eyesmile Thanks Gena for the FAV! I can't believe I didn't see the dragon the whole time editing. I was trying to remove the dragon's tongue for the longest time and it did not work. Now I'm glad I failed! :0
@darylo Thanks again Daryl --you're photo's inspired me to think about being a bit more creative. Note I said 'think' -- quite how long it'll be before I get round to it's a different thing entirely!
@princessleia I think it is now. :) I never really look these days unless someone tells me too. But it is a very nice thing to see today since I do love the photo. :) Thanks very much for your nice comments. Big smiles today.
@gazbadger I recommend it! I didn't have time last time I was challenged to do it and I was like "meh," but plotting this one out has been fun. It's not too difficult.
@psychographer what did you try to do? I think doing something outside is too complicated -- I used my bathroom, which has no windows, so it was completely dark! I'm thinking of doing something else tomorrow, but I'm out of flames. :)
@grizzlysghost I didn't even see the dragon until my hubby pointed it out! Now I see my badass dragon too! Thanks for the fav Aaron--much appreciated. :)
@northy Thanks so much. I'm a bit proud of this one--next big bucket list item will be light trails in the city over Thanksgiving break. :) That and getting another grocery cart pic (lol). :)
@mzzhope Thanks so much Hope. It was definitely on the bucket list and now I'm feeling like I know what to do another time. We'll see if I get to one more. The week just flies by!
Remarkable and amazing shot. I thought you massaged this a little in Photoshop, but the fact that you captured this in the moment is amazing. I'd print this off, enter it into every contest and retire off the proceeds. This is really awesome!
@thomastoth Thanks very much Thomas! I'm pretty sure it's not very good quality in the end--have no clue. But no PS. Dark restroom. One match. One take. A bit of editing in LR5, and done.
@dtigani Thanks, and hey, thanks for choosing mine to be in the final five! I'm proud of this shot, so thanks again! I used a long match and it stayed lit for the "swoop" I did. If you use one, I suggest starting in the back and wrapping around. Gives that nice effect. The "dragon" part was just accident, but happy accident.
@thomastoth Thanks sooooooo much. I'm proud of this one. your reaction just made my day, and it's been a bit of a sucky day (including having my kid get sick in the car, so you have no idea how you just lifted my spirits!!!). Sorry, I realize TMI. :)
@darylo In the past few weeks, I've almost left 365 at least three times. It's people like you and others that keep me on the site. I get such a charge when people look at my stuff and comment. I like to do the same! 365 peeps continually lift my spirits so I know EXACTLY how you feel. :)
@jo13@happysnap@willowdragon@kass@rennes@taffy@wind_of_the_sothern_sea@pamknowler@seanoneill@steampowered@genesis_one Wow! I am not in the loop! Sorry, have been in the midst of holiday and not being online at all. Thanks so much for the head's up on the TT--TOTALLY surprised as I thought it was in last week's photos and would never even be considered. I really want to thank you for coming to my photo and lifting my spirits. This is probably my favorite shot of my project as it stretched my camera skills and made me think more creatively. So thank you very much. :)
@gailmmeek Hey Gail, thanks so much! I'm just getting on after stuffing myself to the gills with food yesterday. :) A really pleasant thing to see on the TT. I haven't even seen the whole list yet! Catching up slowly. Thanks for the fav girl. Really appreciate it.
@mzzhope Gosh, HOpe, thanks so much! I honestly never thought it would be on this list because I posted it last Wednesday and just didn't pay attention at all! So pleasantly surprised. Thanks again. :)
@alisonp@kporte thanks for the tries! My squirrel shot, my devil dog, still reigns. I think squirrel on. 365 trumps anything , no? Many thanks though!!!!
