Today, I had the honor of taking head shots for my wonderful and beautiful sister-in-law who is setting up her college counseling business here (she had one in CT and was a huge success!). But before we started, I met the newest member to the family: Lucy.
After all of the shots we took, this was our favorite shot--just not exactly corporate, but if any of my photoshop friends know of a way to crop out lovely Lucy to make a head shot, let me know. I don't have those skills!
We did get a few headshots to work with, and if they don't work, we'll try again. The light was less than ideal, and I don't have lighting equipment. My sister-in-law was too nice to even let me have a go at it!
Oh, and tomorrow, I pick up my very first professional paper prints of my shots that will go on exhibition next week. Eeeeek! Here's hoping I don't mess up the framing of them. Archival paper is not cheap!
@abirkill just have to ask: can a head shot happen if I crop out the dog? I think the focus is not good enough for that as it's more on the dog, but thought I would ask the expert! LOVED that moon shot here and on Facebook--always love the narratives. :)
Great shot! Regarding cropping, it would really depend on how it was going to be used. If it's being used as, for example, a LinkedIn profile photo, or other low-resolution web use, then I suspect it would be fine. I think you could add a bit of selective sharpening to the hair using a Photoshop layer to help bring out some extra crispness. However, for larger uses or printed materials, I suspect that with the combination of the heavy crop that would be required, and the focus, might make it a bit too soft.
The crop itself might be a tad tricky as it would have to be quite close to avoid getting Lucy's ear in the photo, you'd have to experiment.
Hope the prints come out as you hope, and good luck in the exhibition!
@maggiemae they calm down much earlier than others. My 8 - year-old dog is so completely unruly compared to Lucy. Lucy was "loose" for a family gathering in the house and didn't knock over anything or jump. She scored major points!
