One of my photography bucket list items was photographing rice terraces. Before I left for Bali, I saw several travel photographs with lush rice terraces high in the mountains. There are two things I wish I had communicated better with my driver on this trip. One was that I wanted to go to a specific rice field terrace area (this is not it) and the other was going to a "purification ceremony" on the island. The days were long, and it took hours to get to places as the roads are narrow, filled with potholes, and the traffic is intense.
No complaints, but when I see these shots, I see how much the fields in this area had already been cleared for new growth and small fires were everywhere burning the ground or trash (both probably).
Regardless, this was a lovely resting spot for lunch, and if you look in the distance inside the small hut, a whole family of people are resting there from their work. All of the fields in Bali have little resting huts dispersed in the middle of the fields--very important when the sun comes out and tries to oppress everyone!
@joansmor yes, unfortunately, my driver and friend were not as committed to this scene, so I felt rushed the whole time. In addition, it was not the area I thought I was going to. The driver made some choices that were "alternatives" to the tour guides designated places. I don't think he knew I was hoping for the other location-but couldn't do anything about it at that point. Well worth the visit regardless!
