Sake Casks at Meiji Shrine, Color by darylo

Sake Casks at Meiji Shrine, Color

Best on black if you have the time....

Wow, this is a hard photo to edit. If you brighten the whites, you lose detail (which is the most fascinating part about the casks). I have another edit of the same photo, cropped slightly different too (I might shave the top some more).

And honestly, these casks are not white--far from it since they are out in the elements all the time! The day was so overcast and raining (later a downpour of epic proportions arrived) that I should feel lucky to have such a wonderful depiction of the ornate sake casks.
I love how you filled the frame. Nice colours and patterns.

I love the chaos of the colors against the order of the rows. Have you tried luminosity masks to change one tone while not affecting others?

@fotoblah I wish I could say yes (or no) but it's probably no. I'll look it up:)

@darylo I was curious, so I tried brightening the whites. Took less than a minute. Would you like to see it? I don't make public my edits of others photos without their permission.

I love the colour which brings out the designs for me anyway.

@fotoblah sure. You can send to darylophotog@gmail.com? I use that for photographs only.

Hi Daryl, lovely shot, great collection of colours and details, makes for a very interesting image. What do they do with these casks ? Are they for sale as they are or is the sake still fermenting and then re bottled as with whisky ?

I am struggling to find time to comment on here very often, but thank you very much for all the amazingly wonderful comments you have left on my posts recently, they are very much appreciated.
By the way your new kitchen looks fabulous, bet you are having fun in there. I have a gas double oven, grill and seven ring stove, and I am normally cooking for me, lol.

@markp apparently they are advertisers who sponsor the temples. Did not know that until Junko Yokota informed me! They replace them yearly I believe. Never worry about comments. I have been so infrequent here but I get a daily dose of my favorite bird photographer when I open the website! You have such wonderful captures.
