We went to visit the gannet colony on the west coast at Muriwai - north-west of Auckland. A lot of the chicks were nearly as big as their parents, but still lacking in their adult plumage. It was a very hot day, with not much wind, so we really got strong whiffs of what a fish feeding colony of gannets smells like! Note the fisherman on the rocks - a very dangerous occupation - there were other fishermen too - all clad in gumboots and heavy clothing - not too sensible if washed in….
We're planning to return to Auckland in two years, and I will definitely need a "where to go to get great photos" tips from you! this is a fabulous collage that reminds me of being in the Galapagos.
@jyokota oh Junko, I was thinking exactly the same... it reminded me so much the Galapagos :)
