This photo was taken earlier in the month. It is a wee church called St Brides and is a 10 minute drive from home. This church was built around 1860, from a native timber (totara) and was a place of worship for the early settlers. It also doubled as a fort and the rifle-slits can still be seen. It was to be a safe haven if needed during the Maori and early settler times of uncertainty.
Lovely b&w image... the rifle slits are fascinating. I like the textures in the field, on the right, and the light across the ground. Nice job capturing the historical sense of place.
Beautiful b&w shot - remarkable detail. The composition with the church on the far side is excellent because it takes in so much while still keeping the church the main focus.
Great capture of this nice church and the landscape around.
Thanks for the interesting history. Our oldest churches has been build for the same purpose to. Give shelter in time of war and by big storms
. great in B&W
