Hollard Gardens by dide

Hollard Gardens

Today Carrie and I visited the Hollard Gardens in Taranaki. What an incredible, huge area of large trees and shrubs. It was begun by Bernie Hollard in 1926 when he bought the dairy farm. He quickly put share milkers onto the farm, so he could spend from dawn 'til dusk working on the garden. Along with his wife, Rose, he established an incredibly big area of beautiful gardens, intertwined with walkways. The Hollards handed care of the garden over to the Queen Elizabeth II National Trust. In 2002 ownership of the gardens was handed to the Taranaki Regional Council. If you are ever in the area, it is a 'must-do' visit! The image shows young ladder fern.
Yes I have been there ... I remember seeing the Mexican firewheel tree there ... spectacular... nice image...

Whilst ferns don't have any flower or blossom, their grace and delicacy far surpass many that do.

I have been to Taranaki once, we were looking at farms but we didn't see this place. Good farming land I believe with just the right amount of rain. Love ferns!
