Today, while I was in New Plymouth, I went with my sister to the Govett-Brewster Art Gallery. We saw this neat kinetic energy sculpture in action. It was designed by Len Lye and consists of two 6.2 metre lengths of stainless steel - one each side of another length which forms a huge loop. The when in action, the kinetic energy makes the loop flip and the straight lengths twist, making an incredible ringing, crashing noise. So much noise, that the audience need to wear ear muffs! What a great thing to see, but it's hard to show it on here. Here's a link to see it in action https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A8TXkUSxB5Y
My favourite piece of Len Lye's - I first saw it when I was about 15 as part of my art class, went back to see again a couple of weeks ago...still love it
