@northy On a totally different note, I remember you ran into a problem when you switched to a new hard drive with your lightroom files. I'm about to start storing my photos on a different external drive as my one from 2014-2015 is now filling up, so Jan 1 seemed a good time to switch. I wasn't planning on creating a new catalogue. Do you remember what caused the problems you had? I remember it being a total setback and it's a bit worrisome.
@taffy i think my first mistake was using the same type of external drive as i already had in use... and then i didn't bother to create a new name for it... but really, i never did manage to figure out where i went wrong or what i should have done instead... i'm on a new laptop now, and never went back to solve the problem... and i'm not sure what would happen if i tried to hook the first hard drive up to my new laptop... (and something went amiss when i tried to hook the 2nd hard drive up last week - not sure what - have i ever mentioned that i am somewhat cursed when it comes to tech???)... if i were starting over, i would go to a photo tech expert and have them do it for me... sigh...
if you get advice on what you should do, can you pls let me know? maybe the holiday season would be a good time for me to try and get this sorted once and for all...
@northy I think i'll set up an appointment at Apple one-to-one since it technically is an Apple display issue -- they don't support LR and aren't allowed to help us with that, but if I can figure out a way to connect the issue to an Apple issue (like my Mac), then maybe they would help. I'll definitely let you know if I find out anything!
@taffy i'd be a bit cautious about that tactic... in my experience, apple folks don't necessarily know either lightroom or photography... possibly they can help with explaining how to make sure that the mac doesn't get confused between the two external drives? but i would be leery about counting on them to get it right when it comes to lightroom and photography... as Bill said in response to another post, may want to think about calling adobe help and getting them to walk you thru this as well...
@northy Good point -- so much is the luck if you get the right person who knows LR well, but who can focus on Apple products even as s/he shares other information. It's a definite risk. I have to figure it out by next week, so should have something to share by then.
