I started my project in January and now, more than halfway through the year, I feel like my photos are at an 'all time low'.
Either I don't take them during the day and then do random ones at night or they just don't turn out like I want them to...
Anyone else feel like this? And what are you doing to try to improve?
Sometimes we all feel this way :-) Just continue. Suddenly the inpiration will hit you and each time it does, it'll hit you harder.
Or you can just quit but I wouldn't recommend that one.
I know exactly what you mean. I have had a few periods like this but like Mek says you just have to keep on keeping on. My most recent low spot has been the last couple of weeks, but I have found that taking part in the weekly theme and the get pushed challenge (which I have to confess I find terrifying!) have renewed my enthusiasm, maybe you should give it a go - assuming you dont already of course
Yup. This is where it gets tough! Give yourself a chance and experience the frustration of being in the hole. I experienced it twice during the year. Each time, on advice from another 365er, I suffered, the prevailed - I felt like I grew as a photographer. WHatever you do, don't quit. Your images look good and you should go for it!
I went to check your profile and submission. I observe that you are a very creative young lady and your submission are very excellent (to my standard). You also welcome critique or observation, that way U will know if U are improving. Superb attitude! Keep shooting, we all have lows and highs!
I think part of why we hit those lows is we have grown as a phototographer. We realize we have hit a point in our work and it is time for the next level. If we quit, we don't progress. If we push through and learn our next lessons, we grow. I think many on here have found the get pushed challenge does that for us in a way we might not see for ourselves.
Plateaus are a part of any learning curve. Push forward, you will be happy you did.
@bug I think one thing that will keep you inspired is if you get more people to follow and comment. I find a few kind remarks does wonders to keep me going. So I am now following you and I encourage others to do the same.
How about looking for bright colors and action shots? Look at details instead of rushing past things in general. Look at the light and the shadows. You'll get turned on to what you start seeing and the low point will pass :)
@aspada - good advice! I finished my first year in July and haven't gotten the kick in the pants I need to start year two - I feel just like the author of this topic (avigayl) - all my photos are crap and I don't know what I'm doing - to paraphrase - I very much like the bright color idea, thanks!
@bug music is a great way to find inspiration for me, either listening to an album, or flicking through the album sleeve (thats if your not downloading) and everything around music!....
When I was hitting some lows on my project I made a couple of realizations. First, This project is for ME. It is to my benefit to continue. That helped me continue to meet my goal. Second, My goal was to take one or more pictures every day. I realized that they did not need to be good pictures. Sometimes a "throw-away" picture just to fill a day actually gets great response.
@bug Just as Mike @mcrt stated above, the project is MINE. Sometimes I feel that I'm in a rut but I've persisted. Just recently set myself a challenge to turn a corner. See http://365project.org/tonydebont/3rd-place/2012-08-05 if you're interested.
Or you can just quit but I wouldn't recommend that one.
