Square September Final Week!

I have loved browsing through the photos, and am sorry that this month has been extra busy for me, preventing me from giving 365 as much attention as I had hoped.
I have enjoyed this challenge and learnt quite a lot about composition. It is really interesting to look back over old photos. I don't think I ever thought about the square format - I had an SLR that gave me an aspect ratio of 7.5 by 5. I now have a camera that gives me an aspect ratio of 3 by 4. I think it was having Hipstamatic on my iPhone that introduced me to the square format, and I really find using the square format has improved my creativity.
I have yet to embrace Instagram, but I suspect many of you have already done so, and learnt about the square format there. Here are a couple more websites to inspire you:

So if you want to improve your composition, join in with Square September and try to spend this week restricting yourself to the square format – think Simplicity, Subtlety, Shape, and Space.
- Use B&W, your phone or iPad, or various apps such as Hipstamatic. If the composition just doesn’t work, post it and see what you can learn about it from others. Or visit some photos from a couple of years ago and see what may work better cropped into a square. Or copy an idea from ’40 beautiful square photos’ from Andrew Gibson’s website as above.

I don't think I've posted any more square than usually.. Maybe I'll try rest of the week :D already posted for today, and that wasn't a square. But I've always liked 1x1 crop!

I initially said I might try it a few days a week, but I ended up totally embracing it and have posted something in the square format every day. I am not sure I always got it right, but it has been a great learning experience. Thanks so much @lleo for suggesting it, I have enjoyed it immensely! It has made me a regular poster on my Instagram account and the feed back from there has been more than I had before.

I'm enjoying this challenge. I have to crop mine square. My camera won't let me shoot as a square. I just try to keep it in mind when I'm taking the picture.

@altadc Wow! This is amazing! I'll have some time this week to catch up and look at these great circles in squares. So glad you enjoyed the challenge. I am rather addicted to squares now!
