2015 March 24: Early last winter I piled together some sticks underneath our feeders, adding to the assemblage as more fell out of our maple trees. All winter long this gave our backyard birds shelter from predators and from the bitter north wind.
Now that spring has arrived I will soon move these branches so flowers can grow in their place, but I am glad that so many birds seemed to enjoy them for a season.
