Tribute to Pat

Day 94 of 365: Tribute to Patricia

2015 April 4: Today's post is a photo that I took this afternoon of the home of my good friends and closest neighbors, Ron and Patricia. This is posted as a bittersweet tribute to Pat, who at the first of this week succumbed to the cancer that she had been battling since last July.

Her funeral was a moving celebration of the exuberant life that she lived ...replete with a slideshow of interesting photos taken throughout her lifetime. (I digress, but: This shows the importance of taking frequent photos; these will mean so much to her family down through the generations!) The chaplain kept the service upbeat and on-point as he spoke of the highlights of her well-lived life.

I don't know how funeral processions proceed elsewhere, but in my corner of the world the local police assign patrol cars to escort the procession. As they travel, every vehicle they pass comes to a complete standstill until the last car in the procession has gone by ...everyone does this to show respect.

In this case, there were a good many cars in the procession; we traveled several miles over a major road. HPD assigned 6 patrol cars, since a good many intersections would need to be blocked while the procession traveled through. I believe that Pat would have been quite touched to see all of the people who, for those few short minutes, interrupted their lives to honor and show respect for her family's loss.

Anyway, here on the day before Easter/Resurrection Sunday, I am using this post to celebrate Pat's life; to remember with joy the friendship that I had with her; and to give thanks for her belief in her Savior that comforted her and held firm even in the end.
sorry for your loss, love the tribute for your friend.

I agree with Jenn and Paul. Nice tribute to your special friend. I'm sorry she lost her battle to this terrible disease.

@Jenn Gillis, @Paul, and @Gayle Sears , Thank you for your kind comments. Loss is always hard, but made easier by knowing that she is now walking the streets of heaven with the Lord ...free from pain!

Wow, a very moving and sweet tribute to your neighbor and friend Pat. This is a very sad time of the year for me as well and rememberance. I also agree that taking a lot of photos is wonderful to have and to give the family and friends when there is a loss. Almost always fun times or moving times. Pat had a good friend in you and I am sure loved your tribute to her!! FAV!

Thanks for your kind comment, @Kathy! It is interesting how joy and sadness can both be caught up in the same photo; I hope that for both of us the joy will come to vastly outweigh the sadness.
