Wilson Dam Waterfall

Day 173 of 365: Wilson Dam Waterfall

2015 June 22: On our trip to the Shoals last Saturday, we visited the Wilson Dam Rockpile Recreation Area (Site 7 on the Alabama Birding Trail). I try to go there whenever we are in the Shoals area to see the American White Pelicans, Double-crested Cormorants, and Great Blue Herons that inhabit that area.

As we walked the trail, I was surprised to note that in spite of the intense heat and sunshine that day there were more people enjoying the area than I had ever seen there before ...and a good many boats in the river that the trail parallels. The foliage along the way appeared lush and almost tropical.

When we reached this waterfall, several families were there having a wonderful time splashing in it to enjoy the coolness of the water. It was wonderful to see these young families lingering together!
That's a great view!
