Conjunction of Planets

Day 191 of 365: Conjunction of Planets

2015 July 10: On June 30 of this year Venus and Jupiter appeared less than a third of a degree apart in the nighttime sky, giving them the appearance of a double star. For several nights around that date they appeared quite close in the early evening sky.

From the photos that I have seen, this was a beautiful sight ...but our skies were overcast for the duration of this dramatic event.

Around sunset this evening members of my family informed me that, although the planets did not appear anywhere near that close anymore, they were shining quite brightly above the setting sun. I grabbed my camera and immediately went outdoors to see if they were correct -- and was greeted by the beautiful sight of these two planets shining brightly above the horizon in the falling night.
Very nice catch. We missed the conjunction of the planets as well due to the overcast sky. Seems like clear skies are a rarity anymore these days.
