2015 July 30: Tonight at sunset I promptly went outdoors to take photos of the last "Blue Moon" (i.e., the second full moon in a calendar month) of 2015. This will be the last blue moon until January 31, 2018, so I wanted to be sure to get some photos of it.
My son, who takes much better night photos than me, joined me to make sure that I got some acceptable photos. He took this one; I like it so much that I decided to make his photo my photo-of-the-day today.
The next notable lunar phenomenon this year will happen on September 28, 2015: The full moon that night will be the closest perigee moon of the year and will also feature a total lunar eclipse, according to EarthSky. If my area isn't cloudy on that night, I look forward to improving my night photography skills in the meantime, and getting a photo of that!
I was trying to take photos of the moon in the manual mode on my new camera and was not getting anywhere with it. So I came on 365, looked for moon shots and found yours!! I looked at your settings and then preceded to take some photos, still having to tweek the settings until I could get it right!! Earlier it was so hazy I didn't think I'd get a photo, then it cleared right up!! This is a great photo, so be sure to tell your son and now YOU do it. The moon will still be full a couple more nights!! I'm giving you a challenge!!! FAV!
@cashew How funny, @Kathy ...You and I did the same thing! After my son took some pretty good photos, we looked at a fabulous moon shot by @Ryan Jason and tried to tweak ours to include his settings as close as possible. 365 is such a wonderful place to learn and improve! I'm working on my own moon photo now...Can't let my son beat me at this.
