Evening at the Duck Pond by dsp2

Evening at the Duck Pond

Day 244 of 365: Evening at the Duck Pond

2015 September 1: With autumn approaching and fall migration in full swing, the Duck Pond was quite active and beautiful today!

The sky was filled with beautiful clouds that appeared brilliant white against the deep blue sky before becoming fiery red and yellow in the sunset ...while Chimney Swifts darted around us looking for their evening meal.

I was quite surprised to find that every one of the Canada Geese that had been so prevalent the day before had flown elsewhere ...I presume that they were simply visiting a nearby pond. We did, however, see and hear a good many birds: Mallards, Muscovies, Bluebirds, Rock Doves, a few Gadwall, and the Greylag Goose -- in addition to the Chimney Swifts.

While looking for birds high in the trees, I was enthralled to notice a beautiful butterfly gracefully flitting about in a pine tree -- The orange on its wings gleaming against the green pine needles.

It was a wonderful evening for walking and birding!
Beautiful collage DS. I particularly like the top right picture.

I just LOVE the clouds in the middle photo!! It's like someone threw thousands of cotton balls against the sky and they stuck!!! How lucky for you to have the duck pond near you and to be able to go out and enjoy all of nature there!! Our Canadian Geese seemed to have flown the coup too! Maybe like your's they are just visiting another pond? Love your collage and that you shared your beautiful walk with us!! FAV!
