eBird's Global Big Day by dsp2

eBird's Global Big Day

2016.05.14 Saturday: Today was eBird's Global Big Day ...This event isn't as big as their Great Backyard Bird Count, but the last time that I checked their site they had 5,244 species of birds reported by 11,126 people from all over the world today. Apparently every birding area was represented with the exception of the South Polar region.

I find it fascinating to hear of the variety of birds reported: the Amazonian Umbrellabird reported in Venezuela, the Middendorff's Grasshopper-Warbler reported by observers in Taiwan, the Nubian Woodpecker in Kenya, the Purple Indigobird in Zimbabwe, the Black-crowned Sparrow-Lark reported from Qatar ...a seemingly-endless list of fascinating birds! How blessed we all are to be able to see such beauty!

My eBird report held my usual array of backyard birds, such as Blue jays, Northern mockingbirds, Carolina wrens, Northern cardinals, and (of course!) our beloved American robins.

This one followed behind our mower today (looking for worms) as my husband cut our lawn.
An interesting narrative, must check this out :)

Sounds like a really fun thing to be a part of. I had tossed a few slightly inedible cherries outside today and discovered that Robins REALLY like them! Nice shot.

I guess I should pay more attention to my inbox -- I'm pretty sure I'm on that- ebird list and I'm totally bummed I missed the Big Day! Glad this little guy got counted. Nice to have a helper when mowing the lawn.
