Strawberry Moon by dsp2

Strawberry Moon

2016.06.20 Monday: At twilight as soon as I noticed it was getting dark outdoors, I grabbed my camera and went running outside to take photos of tonight's "Strawberry Moon."

Tonight's full moon was rather rare in that it coincided with the summer solstice ...This has not happened since 1967, and will not happen again until 2062.

When the moon was near the horizon, it had an amber color to it, but as it rose higher in the sky it took on its regular color -- I suppose this is due to dust in the lower atmosphere. For comparison, I put together this collage of the two ...with the just-risen moon on the left, and the higher-in-the-sky moon on the right.

Nice collage- I almost took a shot of the full moon but since I'd just taken a moon shot last week I let it go. Now I wish I had taken it!!
