I find sparrows to be hard to identify. Do you. They all seem so similar with just slight variations.

Lucky you. They always fly off when I point the camera at them. Excellent capture and dof. Fav.

Ohhh, this is a beauty! You captured every beautiful detail of this gorgeous sparrow! I love these birds - they spend Summers with us - and their unique, long trills alert us to their presence and bring us joy!

@mbrutus I have a hard time identifying sparrows and warblers! I do have a process, though: First I upload a pic of the bird to the Merlin bird app (They have photo ID now!); if that doesn't work, then I go to the whatbird website. My final option is to upload the pic to facebook ...I belong to a couple of bird ID groups on facebook, so there is always someone to tell me what the bird is (when I swallow my pride and ask)!

@dsp2 I actually wrote to The Audobon Society suggesting that they raise their game for identifying birds. I tried their field guides, their app, and their website and could not identify a particular bird after several hours. I entered nine words on a Google Search and found a picture of the American White Ibis in a nanosecond. Then it took me parts of four days to finally identify what I believe is an Egyptian Goose. I went to post it on the Audobon app, but couldn't do so because you can only post off of a selected list and the Egyptian Goose wasn't on the list. I have the Merlin bird app on my phone, too. I like it a little better. I also invested in the Stokes Field Guide to Birds. I like it because it has photos of males, female, and juveniles of each listed bird. I'm new to this and the juvenile thing had been throwing me for a loop. Especially since they usually looked like full size birds to me.
