2018.04.14 Saturday: Last week I started the EdX course "Drawing Nature, Science and Culture: Natural History Illustration 101" offered by The University of Newcastle in Australia. Courses are free to those of us who just want to audit one without receiving any credit.
I still have a long way to go, but my sketching has improved a lot from learning how to identify shapes, draw texture through shading, etc. I find that many of the principles in drawing apply to my photography also -- and am blending the two as I learn to nature journal.
I created a page for this week's "homework" by taking photos of the objects that I wanted to sketch, making a collage, and drawing them. This is a pic of my final version of it.
@huvesaker The course started last week, but I believe that you can still sign up if you would care to check it out. (This course lasts 6 weeks, so there is still plenty of time to catch up.)
The link for this course is https://www.edx.org/course/drawing-nature-science-culture-natural-newcastlex-nhi101x-1 or you can go to https://www.edx.org/ to check out all of their classes. I find it remarkable that they offer these for free (as long as you don't want a verified certificate)!
