2018.06.05 Tuesday: While at the Botanical Gardens yesterday, Matthew and I were delighted to get to see their Button Quail in the Butterfly House. These delightful birds are only 4 inches tall when mature. They are kept at the Butterfly House because they eat insects and are a good means of pest control in such places.
Staff at the Butterfly House told us that last year they had 16 Button Quail -- but a chipmunk chewed a hole in the screen of the house, and all 16 of the birds escaped and have not been seen again. Now they have started again with 2 Button quail and are keeping a watchful eye on them.
The staff members graciously let us step off the path to photograph these wonderful birds ...We are very happy that we were at the right place and right time to get some pics!
