2019.07.17 Wednesday: This week's lesson in "A Year With My Camera" was to learn how to change the white balance in-camera. After a few failed attempts, I managed to figure out how to do this -- and was quite impressed with the difference that this makes!
I just realised you had dropped off my following list, so fixing that!
Are you enjoying the course? I only just heard about it and am considering enrolling. This set of images really works - did you use a tripod?
Your collage inspired me to check my own white balance setup. I confess that I have gotten lazy with the WB setting over the years and have left it on Auto. So many times I have forgotten to change it to the correct light setting. I like the direct sunlight setting so much better than the Auto. The former gives a warmer light to the photo. Auto tends to make it colder.
I've just started AYWMC on the July course. It is so well structured and certainly drags out the information that has been buried for years! I'm looking forward to seeing how it goes.
Sounds like a great course to familiarize yourself with your camera. And this chart can also serve as a good reminder of what each kind of setting does. Nice job.
Looks good. I am doing this course as well - I started in January. I didn't even think to enter my homework in here - I should. It's a good course (it's funny when I use a film SLR or Pinhole it is totally manual but because I am so used to using a compact which only have different auto settings I am struggling not to use auto on the DSLR which I just got at Christmas).
@koalagardens Thanks! I did not realize, but must have dropped off your list while I was inactive, I guess. At least I was still able to see your beautiful koalas!
I had to use a tripod for this set of photos ...I tried without one and found that I wasn't able to hold the camera steady enough to be able to compare them without it :).
This camera course starts several times throughout the year. People of all skill levels seem to enjoy it -- I know that I certainly have enjoyed it and learned a lot so far! They send an email with a "lecture" and an assignment each week, and you can just save the email and do the work at your own pace if needed -- although it is fun to post in the facebook group and get feedback.
@pej I've never changed my white balance before, but as you mentioned the Auto setting does seem to turn out a colder temp photo. I agree that the Sunlight setting gives a nicer pic, and also looks a lot more like what I actually saw!
@la_photographic I hope that you are enjoying the course as much as I am! I am trying to remember to tag my coursework pics on 365 with AYWMC -- If you do post some of your homework, I hope that you will tag yours also so we can find them!
