Today was car MOT day (passed with no extra expenses - phew!) and go to the supermarket day - yippee. The weather is rubbish and there's only a few recalcitrant dollops of snow left lurking here and there - so I carried on experimenting with manual settings.
This looks more like the shiny, metallic cluster of crystals I know and love.
I did what I should have thought of doing yesterday : took a shot on auto settings , looked at the data and tried to work out what to alter to get what I wanted.
Sorry if anyone has spotted this popping up and down on their home page. A certain amount of dithering between two shots and crops has been going on. Sometimes the only way to decide what works best is to upload and look.

You have set yourself a real personal challenge with this. Like everyone else I think you have done a wonderful job. The crystal itself is beautiful and has a very interesting structure. I know from personal experience it can be difficult to be happy with it until it look in the photo what you see with your eyes.
@natsnell Thank you, Nat. I'm not very confident about this manual setting stuff and am doing a fair amount of head scratching, so your encouragement is a real help and most welcome.
@cocobella Thank you for the follow and your kind comments, Corinne.
I'm no technician, either - I'm a beginner at this manual setting thing!
I agree with you, I prefer this one too.
