Last day of my blue week. This has been a beautiful day. We walked over 7-miles from home to Hampton Court Palace and then back through Kingston and on to Teddington along the Thames towpath. Everyone we saw looked so happy that it is sunny.
I specifically wanted to see the moat which is flooded at the moment around Hampton Court Palace. The moat was originally built in 1514 as an ornamental clay lined moat but over the last few centuries it has been kept dry. It last flooded in 2003 which I missed. It was so impressive and quite deep with between 2-3 feet of water purely from the recent heavy rains we have experienced. I think there will be some major electrical work to be done once it has drained as the facade floodlights can be seen under the water… somewhat like my camera I expect they are weather shielded but not waterproof!!!
We also saw crocuses and snowdrops in the Palace grounds and even a few early daffodils. Lovely to think Spring could be around the corner but I expect we'll be having some cold weather before then.
I love everything about this shot, Emma, the angle, the composition, the warm brick colour against the reflected sky. Fav! And I'm so envious that you are seeing crocuses and snowdrops and even a few daffodils--we will see them here eventually, but probably not until late February or early March, staring with snowdrops. Sounds as if you and Colin had a wonderful walk!
You got there just at the right time - the light's lovely. Mine are much darker because I'm ashamed to say I got there and couldn't remember where the moat was (inspite of one of the kids dropping something in it years ago!), so I was kicking myself when I got there after the sun had gone down!
Lovely shot and a brilliant blue sky. Yes we did get to wee the helix bridge. My shots for today are not very inspiring, but I'm a bit pushed for time.
