11th May 2014

The second Sunday in May is Chestnut Sunday in Bushy Park. This is an event to celebrate the 'candles' on the horse chestnut trees along Chestnut Avenue.

The festival originated at the end of the 19th century and continued up to the second world war. It was resurrected in 1993 and is now flourishing.

The parade consists of vintage cars, military vehicles re-enactment people, rescue greyhounds, motorbikes and horses to name but a few. Here is the Mayor of Richmond - councillor Meena Bond. Her official car was in front but she decided that hitching a lift on a Harley Davidson would be more fun.

Not often you see a mayor doing that, great capture! I wish the things our mayor does were as blameless as this ...
