6th August 2016

Today we headed eastwards to New Romney, primarily to go to a friends barbecue on Sunday but we decided to make a weekend of it and visit some of Colin's childhood haunts when he was on holiday with his Mum and Dad.

Our first move was to have lunch and afternoon tea in New Romney before visiting Dungeness. It is an amazing place with the largest expanse of shingle in the UK. There is a great little narrow gauge railway and it is also the location of Derek Jarman's house - Prospect House. The Dungeness Power station looms over the shingle along with two massive lighthouses.

The Dungeness RNLI are also based here and have an open day with a rescue demonstration tomorrow which I'm hoping we can squeeze in tomorrow before the barbecue. This is the RNLI flag and 'Respect the Water' campaign flag.

We also popped out in the evening after our Indian meal and I saw 3 shooting stars. There is very little light pollution here so we got see the first of the Perseids.
