Today we had planned an early start to travel down to Mums but... the roofer who did not turn up on Friday and did not bring the correct ladders on Saturday, faithfully promised to come at 8.00am this morning. Then 9-9.15 as he had to take his son to school. 10.00am came and went... at 10.30 Colin called him and just after 11.30 he called to say his colleague had not turned up so he couldn’t come. I was very short with him and we refused his offer to do the work in our absence tomorrow. I was fuming as we’d wasted the morning we could have been driving down to Mums.
I stocked up Sydney’s house, packed our picnic lunch including flasks of tea and packed the car and we were finally off at 12.30.
The SatNav took us the A303 route and apart from a bit of traffic around Stonehenge it was pretty clear. I drove 180 miles to the independent Hog and Hedge services where we stopped for our picnic and socially distanced comfort break. Colin took over drinking and it rained a lot over the moors. We eventually arrived at 6.30pm and even found a parking space!
Hooray, after six months I finally get to see Mum and Ian. What a good day despite the dodgy start. These are the lovely sweet peas that Mum put in our room.
Final news of the day - after 111 days of lock down and gradual opening up again, the Government in their wisdom decide to make wearing face masks in shops compulsory. Why now? They are absolutely bonkers. Not much more to say really.
