First thing this morning I was up a ladder balanced precariously to reattach the security light that we had taken down to enable Daniel to repair the roof. I volunteered as I didn’t want Colin to fall off the ladder and being left handed, it was easier for me to screw in the attachments. It was quite fiddly but I managed it.
This morning I sorted out the invoices for Waterstones and emailed them off. My mobile range and I was rather perturbed to see it was an American number so I answered suspiciously but it turned out to be the cruise line calling from Greece via an American switchboard! I spoke to a lovely woman who had fully answered an earlier email I had sent back in April. She answered every single one of my queries and reassured me on a few points so the system is go - go - go - I’m going to book the cruise!
Last thing, some very sad news. I found a strange little envelope addressed to us both with a second class stamp in the letterbox. In it was a hand written note from the son of a friend of ours who had moved down to Bournemouth some years ago with his wife Ann. The letter was from Malcolm’s son to inform us that Ann had been diagnosed with terminal cancer in June but had been taken into hospital recently and peacefully passed away on her birthday last Thursday with Malcolm and him together with her. Ann had a number of health issues over the years but had a great sense of humour. We had stayed in their Maltese flat a couple of times as guests and I was very fond of her.
This sunflower is dedicated to Ann and her sense of humour, kindness and great style.
