No... this is not very bad camera shake! I have seen some photographs recently where a long exposure has been used simultaneously with a slow pan to create streaks of colour.

The beach here is stunning as are colours enhanced with a polariser. I did want even more of a 'smeared' look but the sun was so bright that even when I pushed the ISO down to 100 and the aperture to 22 -with polariser - I could not get longer than a 1/20 shutter speed. I still like the effect though, must try it again in with filters maybe.
beautiful start! Try using a ND Filter (Neutral Density) on top of your polarizer. It will give you a longer exposure.

@nestortrillo Thank you for the advice, it was so bright. I have a set of Lee filters but have not taken them away with me this time - typical. I also want to try more of the long exposures on the sea as well. I had thought about getting a 'big stopper' but I think that might be a bit extreme?!

Fabulous shot and well done for doing the moving pan to get the effect. I agree with @nestortrillo about the ND filters. I have a couple of varying densities which I combine to make some awesome stoppers. In this article someone has used welding glass as a ten stop ND filter so I shouldn't worry about the "big stopper" being a bit extreme! http://www.diyphotography.net/use-welding-glass-as-10-stops-nd-filter

I think it is beautiful and if you can do this, heaven knows what will follow!

It is pretty cool.

It's really lovely, Emma, verging on abstract, and if anything can make water look more liquid, this seems to. I'll be interested to see what else you do with this technique.

Well it makes me want to run into the image, so I would say, it's a success ;)
