27th July 2013

I know this is another bee photograph in the same month but I really like bees and I really like lavender and as we have a bush right outside of our back door what's not to like?!!

I invested in a new macro lens a few months ago and have only just really started putting it though its paces. Tecchie spec - it is a Canon 100mm f/2.8. I normally stick to Manual but with a subject that moves so quickly it was difficult to keep changing the shutter speed so I'm finding using the AV setting at about f/4 overcomes this and gives a good bokeh effect with just about enough d.o.f. for the bee. This together with the Al Servio setting allows for the constant refocussing. Although having written that this one was on Manual at f/3.5. I'm still quite a novice but my ultimate goal is to capture a bee in flight - sharp!! (Best viewed large)

I took well over 100 images in just about 20 minutes and posted 6 to Facebook if anyone is interested.

@steampowered @nicolaeastwood @tristansmum thanks all. My macros is not used as much as my trusty 24-70mm but when it does come out I love it. I think the best part is that it enables me to see more than with a naked eye. Hold up for more insects/flowers in the future!

@jayberg That's a coincidence, delayed 365 telepathy, I love the rich colour of your lavender, ours is a bit faded looking!
