It is one of the most lovely grave sculptures I have seen and it is in the Twickenham cemetery. I say an angel but she doesn't actually have any wings. The grave is dated 1925 and there is a late Art Nouveau feel to her. The carving of the body is superb, obviously created by a sculptor who used real models. Unfortunately and I really shouldn't moan, the sun was so bright the photograph I took of the entire statue did not look right (needs grey sky/mist/fog etc.!!)
We were there to do some restoration work on the headstone of my husbands parents who sadly I never got to meet - I feel I've missed out on those childhood stories and memories you normally hear from in-laws about your other half. I'm sure there is a lot I don't know!
THANK YOU ALL FOR THE 'FAVES' AND GETTING THIS ANGEL ONTO THE P.P. FOR A DAY
(I have also entered her into the weeks 'dirty-theme' which seems rather sad but she really is dirty from the pollution over the past years although the air is cleaner now)
@steampowered@littledottie@nicolaeastwood@tstb Thank you all. I love graveyards and the many angels. Edwardian sculptures for me seem to be the most beautiful. I'm planning an autumn visit to the Richmond and East Sheen cemetery to see a locally well known memorial to the Lancaster family known as the 'Angel of Death', looks stunning in pictures.
@tristansmum Thank you, I posted the whole angel on FB (link above) so you can see it definitely needs different weather conditions... I can't believe I'm suggesting that rain may look good!!
@kalexa Thank you although I felt a bit guilty as she is so lovely but she is really dirty from years of pollution (probably mainly in the 1950s-60s) although the air quality is a bit better now. There is no one to take care of her and there is always a risk of damage to the stone if cleaned :-(
