Sunday baking.

These are the result of my husbands baking session this morning. Their official name are 'Fat Rascals' and they are a recipe baked at the famous Betty's Tea shops in Yorkshire. They are a bit like spicy scones - delicious. I made the frothy lattes (as you can see our diets are not going so well).

There is a story behind the Fat Rascals. We now know them as a different name. A 'well to do' Aunt of a friend of my sister's visited Betty's Tea shop in Harrogate. Putting on her best posh voice she asked the uniformed waitress if she could have a pot of tea and 'one of those Fat B******s'. With excellent training and without a hint of amusement the waitress promised to bring her a 'Fat Rascal' straight away. It is such an English place, well worth visiting!
This looks like a delicious collation, Emma. Knowing that Colin is a good baker makes me realize that his praise of the blueberry pie in the Grenadier Cafe in high Park was a real compliment to the pie! As you know, I was born in Harrogate and I've heard my parents mention Betty's. Your story about the Fat B*****s is priceless. I must ask my parents if they remember this particular offering at Betty's.
