After the February storms by etienne

After the February storms

This picture illustrates the impact of the winter storms on the sandy coastline around here. The sand cliff gets progressively eaten by the sea, and recedes by a few meters every year. You can see how deep the roots of the sand grasses were going into the ground, but that is not enough to keep the dunes anchored. The footpath that was running over the top at the beginning of February is now gone.
That is a very stark image of the force of the storms. In just one month it took your footpath away. Frightening.

My Dad would have loved this shot. He was a coastal engineer and did a lot of research into the stabilizing effects of coastal spinifex. :)
