Yesterday afternoon, I noticed 3 firefighter vans, with 1 zodiac and 3 rescue divers arriving on the beach. This is unfortunately a scene we get to see once or twice a year during the holiday period, and it is usually not a good sign. So I rushed over there to see if I could help, but this large deployment of resources was to save a small dog that had been caught on a rock by the rising tide. They got to the animal on time and were able to call the owner immediately thanks to the dog ID tag. So, all's well that ends well, and that makes a nice story to start the new year.
