Another Shotgun House

Rural Life Museum, Baton Rouge, Louisiana

Taken with a Holga 60mm lens on Pentax K7

Some say it's called a shotgun house because it is one room wide and you could fire a shotgun into the front door and out the back. Others say the name is derived from the West African word "shogon," meaning God's house.

I love this house. I've posted other photos of it on 365; I've used it on my Christmas cards; I've downloaded music to accompany it. I visit antebellum and Victorian mansions, and I keep coming back to this shotgun house. It is simple and pure and it epitomizes Louisiana and the rural South for me.
Like the darkness the holga gives. Why a shotgun house?

It may be a simple shelter, but you have given it a tremendous amount of dignity.

Love this. I have never heard of a shotgun house. But it does look very southern and you took this shot beautifully.
