Beginnings

A gear used in the sugar refining process.

Sugar refining was the beginnings of the chemical engineering curriculum at LSU. My husband is a chemical engineer who worked for 40 years in Louisiana, though he is a graduate of the University of Virginia (BTW, winner of the NCAA basketball title, but that is beside the point.)
UVA graduate! Awesome! Being a chemical engineer is impressive no matter where you studied.

@allie912 UVA has always been a big part of our lives. I went to Mary Washington when it was the women's college of UVA. One of our sons graduated from UVA in the Echols program (he was pre-med) and our niece (a William & Mary grad) has a master's of education from UVA. The whole family was in constant contact during the NCAA basketball tournament!

Congrats on the title. This wheel looks rather substantial. Is it being left to just rust away?

We have one of these big cogs in the park along the river. My town also used to have a sugar Refinery

I am really liking this industrial series of yours Diane. You are getting some fabulous compositions of these interesting subjects. The Basketball part I was unaware of.
