Some interesting background history about this on Wikipedia. You have captured the lead window beautifully in your photo.

@grammyn Thank you. The history IS interesting. My husband grew up in the Methodist Church, but his parents later became Baptist.

You can say that again! I work for a United Methodist Church and both the structure of the local church and the denomination is ridiculously complicated! I am not a Methodist though- I just work there on staff. I think in its grass roots stage the idea of it worked, but as it grew and became more (supposedly organized) it didn't. But that's just my personal take on it. All that being said- nice stained glass window shot!

are those lights around the outside of the window? I bet it's beautiful lit up at night.

@margonaut Those are lights. One Christmas my husband and I went to a candlelight concert there--it was beautiful!

@olivetreeann As I've done a little research on these old churches, of all denominations, I see how they served the rural communities in so many ways and were the center of peoples' lives. The Methodist circuit riders seemed to have been particularly good at organizing small churches.

@eudora The circuit riders had it right- imho- it's the 20-21st c. Methodists that have sort of muddied the waters (so to speak!). But that's just my opinion having now worked in the denomination for a few years.
