When I was a little girl, we ate the leaves and seed pods of this plant. It has a sour taste.
I didn't realize until I grew up that the seed pods explode when touched, throwing tiny seeds everywhere. I am on a mission to capture that when we have some bigger plants.
@cottiac My mom told me that she had eaten it as a girl, so I tried it. I was probably 6 or 7 the first time. The flavor is sour like a dill pickle especially the seed pods. It is one of my favorite childhood memories; lying in the grass, watching ants make ant trails, and picking sheepshire (that's what we called it) to nibble on.
We ate the oxalis too,... in my language they are even called "sour clover". Great macro by the way, you really have the eye for those little, but beautiful things.
Great detail; had to check out the exif on this and am amazed that you got this DoF with f11. Great side lighting and it really hits that front rim so beautifully.
@joysabin Thank you; I appreciate your kind comment!
@kali66 I have read that if there is a lot of it in the garden, that it indicates the soil needs lime. It takes FOREVER to get rid of it mechanically...I know!
@mona65 I am glad, I am not the only one who spent her youth grazing amongst the weeds. :) And thank you for your lovely comment.
@granagringa Thank you! It's funny that you mentioned the EXIF; I had a look at it after I posted the photo because I couldn't remember exactly what my settings were. I was so surprised that it was f/11; I would have guessed somewhere around f/3.5.
@tahoemb Thank you! It is a tiny little plant...maybe 1.3mm/ 1/2" in diameter.
@alia_801 Thank you! I have been so diligent in picking them...while holding on to the pods so they don't explode, that I only had this one plant. I will have to go in search.
@365projectorgjenfurj Thank you. I agree, I thought it looked like those tiny glass beads were all over the leaf.

I'm looking forward to the exploding seed pod photos!
